Multiple communities postponing trick-or-treat till the weekend

ELYRIA — With Lorain County and the entire East Coast facing bad weather over the next several days, multiple local communities have moved their trick-or-treat hours to the weekend.

Elyria, Elyria Township, Carlisle Township, LaGrange, Sheffield, Wellington, Oberlin and North Ridgeville trick-or-treat has been moved to Saturday and Lorain, Sheffield Lake, Amherst, South Amherst, Avon, Avon Lake, Grafton, Vermilion, Kipton and Camden Township to Sunday. Trick-or-treating in Columbia Station and Rochester has been moved to Friday.

Elyria’s trick-or-treat will be 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Safety Service Director Mary Siwierka.

“We think it’s the safest bet for everybody,” she said.

LaGrange, Carlisle Township, Elyria Township, Sheffield, Oberlin and Wellington will hold trick-or-treat at the same time, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. In North Ridgeville, trick-or-treat will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lorain, Amherst, South Amherst, Sheffield Lake and Grafton will hold trick-or-treat 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and Avon, Avon Lake and Vermilion from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Kipton and Camden Township have moved trick-or-treat to 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Columbia Station trick-or-treating is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday., and Rochester will trick-or-treat 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Eaton Township plans to keep scheduled trick-or-treat times, which is 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Avon, which had originally posted a message on its website reaffirming its decision not to move trick-or-treat, posted the following message today.

“Repercussions from the current storm have been more serious than previously anticipated. Even though the worst of the storm will have passed by tomorrow evening, the downed trees and branches we are dealing with throughout the city will take longer than that to clean up. For that reason we feel it is best to change the times for trick-or-treat,” it said.
