Woman killed by train in Amherst is identified

AMHERST — The woman who was struck and killed by a train Sunday afternoon has been identified by authorities.

The Lorain County Coroner’s office has identified the victim as Linda Suster, 31, of Amherst.

Amherst Police Lt. Dan Jasinski said police learned from the woman’s family that she left her home on foot about 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Family members told police Suster was an active person and often went for walks and ran in all kinds of weather, including Sunday’s rains.

The family grew concerned when Suster had not returned home by evening, and contacted police.

Suster was hit by a train about 3:05 p.m. near West Street and the Jackson Street bridge.

Lorain County Coroner Dr. Stephen Evans said Sunday that the death appeared to be a suicide.
