Browns coach Pat Shurmur expects DT Phil Taylor to be activated this week

BEREA – Browns coach Pat Shurmur said he expects defensive tackle Phil Taylor to be activated off the physically unable to perform list this week and play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Taylor returned to practice last week after tearing a pectoral muscle lifting weights in May. He would take the roster spot of defensive end Emmanuel Stephens, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

Shurmur said he wants to see Taylor have a good week of practice before making the final decision.

Defensive end Brian Sanford was promoted from the practice squad Saturday, so the Browns have some depth at that spot.

** Shurmur said second-year cornerback Buster Skrine will be the game captain this week.
