George Mitchell “Mitch” Sharp, 73, passed away after a lengthy illness, Monday, October 29, 2012 at McLeod Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. He was born October 6, 1939, in Atlanta, Georgia, to George and Ruth Nell (Smith) Sharp.
Mitch attended school in Elyria; he participated in an apprentice program and earned a certificate in instrument repair. On August 6, 1977, he married Helen Middlebrooks. Mitch was a 32 Mason, member of the Bezaleel Consistory 15 of Cleveland. In 1999, he retired from USS/Kobe Steel Company after 30 years of service. An active sportsman in many ways – he boxed as a young man and was a bowler for most of his life – Mitch was an avid golfer. He was a member of Tuesday Scramblers Golf Group of Florence, South Carolina. Some of his favorite activities were to talk with and watch his grandchildren play, chat over yard work with neighbors, and host friends from Ohio who traveled to golf.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth; father, George; and sister, Tracey.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Helen; children, Kimber Garland-Holmes (Bernard), Mitchell Allen Sharp (Linda), Donna Michelle Garland and Deneice Garland, and Sonja Marie Sharp; eight grandchildren; sisters, JoAnn Jones, Audrey Sharp, and Joyce Bullocks; brothers, Leonard Sharp, Arthur Jones, Doug Jones and John Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral and memorial service will be held Monday, November 5, 2012, viewing will be from 11 A.M. until the time of service at 12 Noon at Carter Funeral Home, 127 Bridge Street, Elyria. Internment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon.
