David Allen Dickson, 77, of the Elyria Wesleyan Village, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012, while under the wonderful care of New Life Hospice, after having battled cancer since 2006. He was born in Lorain on March 29, 1935, the son of Orval “Bert” and Virginia (nee Love) Dickson.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1953 and went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he followed a business curriculum. He served in the United States Army and fulfilled duty assignments as a Private First Class, stationed in Strasburg, Germany.
As a young man in high school, Dave worked for the Boroski Shell service station on West Erie Avenue in Lorain. He was later employed by the National Tube Company (predecessor to U.S. Steel) and had also served as a crewman aboard ore boats sailing on the Great Lakes. The last 30 years of his working career were dedicated to the Ford Motor Company, where he served as a repairman in the final garage at the Lorain Assembly Plant. He was a former member of U.A.W. Local 425.
In his free time, Mr. Dickson enjoyed studying family history and also possessed a love for world travel.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Donna Mae (nee Auble); along with his stepchildren, Ron Farabaugh (wife, Kathi), Gloria Tiller (husband, Ted), and Jeff Farabaugh, all of Lorain; grandchildren, Jason, Dawn, Jenny, and Jessica Tiller, along with Greg Farabaugh, and Erin Mendiola (husband, David). He also leaves 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Dickson; and his halfsister, Alberta Turner.
Visitation will be Monday, November 5, 2012, from 7 until 9 P.M., in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will take place at 1 P.M., Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township .
