Rex Allen Mears, 52 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a year long illness. He was born September 24, 1960 in Lorain.
Rex was raised in Lorain, graduating from Admiral King High School in the class of 1979. He lived most of his life in Lorain before moving to Amherst, where he had resided for the last 13 years. Rex was employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain and Avon for 17 years, before retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Vermilion Masonic Ely Lodge #424. Rex loved collecting watches and clocks and was a member of the NAWCC.
Survivors include his wife of 13½years, Kimberly S. Mears (nee Daniels); his stepson, Andy Wagner; stepdaughter, Heather Wagner, both of Fremont; six grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, EJ and Ella Mears (nee Eggert); and his brother, Harce Layne.
Friends may call Thursday November 8, 2012, from 2 until 4 P.M. A Masonic Service will be held Thursday at 6 P.M., in the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, with additional viewing from 6:15 P.M., until the time of the Memorial Service at 8 P.M., in the funeral home.
