Frank Janik earns seat on bench

AMHERST — Amherst City Councilman Frank Janik will trade in his chair at Amherst City Hall for a seat behind the bench at the Lorain County Justice Center.

Janik, a former assistant county prosecutor now working as a criminal defense attorney, beat out attorney Richard Ramsey in the race to replace retiring Domestic Relations Judge David Basinski.

According to unofficial election returns, Janik received 53,608 votes, or 58 percent, compared with Ramsey’s 38,737 votes, or 42 percent.

“I am obviously very happy and humbled by the results,” Janik said.

He held an Election Night party at Ziggy’s in Amherst for his supporters, whom he credited, along with his family and friends, with helping mount a successful campaign.

“I want to thank the residents of Lorain County for allowing me the opportunity to serve as the next Domestic Relations judge,” he said.

Janik beat out four other Democrats in a fiercely contested primary race in March. Ramsey was unopposed in his own Republican primary.
