Memorial trail for slain area soldiers to be dedicated in Lorain on Sunday

LORAIN — A memorial trail honoring local soldiers killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars will be unveiled Sunday as part of area Veterans Day commemorations.

The Heroes Walk dedication is 10:50 a.m. Sunday on the city block between Oberlin and Hamilton avenues and First and Second streets between Settlers’ Watch and the Admiral King memorial.

Carved markers honoring Air Force Airman 1st Class Eric Barnes of Lorain, killed in Iraq in 2007; Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph “Ryan” Giese of Lorain, killed last year in Afghanistan; Marine Lance Cpl. David Hall of Lorain, killed in Afghanistan in 2009; Army Sgt. Bruce Horner of Lorain, killed in Iraq in 2007; and Army Sgt. Louis Torres of Oberlin, killed in August in Afghanistan; will be unveiled.

Friends and relatives of some of the soldiers are expected to take part in the ceremony that will include a minute of silence at 11 a.m..
