John Shima

John “The Welder” Shima, 63, of Sheffield Lake, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012, at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, in Lorain. John was born in Maple Heights, April 11, 1949.

He was employed by Chieftan Trucking Company, as a truck driver. He enjoyed Friday night bowling at Shoreway Lanes and spent every Saturday for the last 40 years, at Lorain County Speedway where he was known as “John the Welder.”

John is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Judy O’Neill (nee Amato); son, John Shima; step-children, Amy Gentry of Sheffield Lake, Diane Steenstra of Avon, John Steenstra (Kim) of LaGrange, Mark Steenstra of Dublin; grandchildren, Kristin and Heather Gentry, and Zoie Steenstra; brother, James of Florida; and his beloved dog, Wonder.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Shima.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake from 5 to 9 P.M., Saturday, November 10, 2012. Service will be at the funeral home at 10 A.M., Monday, November 12, 2012, with Father Timothy O’Connor officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
