William Thomas O’Connell, Jr.

William Thomas O’Connell, Jr., 61, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at Amherst Hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born October 11, 1951 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania Bill was a lifetime resident of Lorain and Amherst.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. He was employed at Teletech as a check processor for the Nisson Division. Bill previously was employed as the chief deputy auditor for the City of Lorain. He attended St. Peter Catholic Church in Lorain. Bill was active with the Lorain County Democratic party. He was an active member of the Lorain Veterans of Foreign Wars #451, and the Lorain Elks. Bill was a huge Notre Dame fan and an avid history buff. He loved cooking for his family.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Betty O’Connell (nee Kurth); his son, Patrick O’Connell of Elyria; his daughter, Erin O’Connell of Columbus; step daughter, Jessica Bay of Amherst; grandchildren, Matthew, Carrie, Lauren, Ben; his brothers, Dennis O’Connell of Bath Township, David O’Connell and his wife Joyce of Burtonsville, Maryland; and his sister and her husband Kathy and Milos Milovich of Orlando, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Anne O’Connell (nee Dezack).

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 7 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Full Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
