Paperwork almost done for high school

ELYRIA — The $70 million Elyria High School project is coming down to minor jobs on the school and paperwork, but school officials anticipate closing the books soon.

On Monday morning, Elyria school board members met in a special session to go over some near-final payments for Regency Construction, the company the led the construction project for the past four years. Students have long been taking classes inside the state-of-the-art building, but school officials still have a lot of paperwork to complete.

Board President Evelyn France said Monday’s meeting was a short one where the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission presented the school board with items that needed its OK to pay to Regency.

The commission was the actual entity that hired Regency to build the building, but because the school was built for Elyria the local district has to OK payments.

France said the board will vote on a resolution authorizing payment at its next meeting. She anticipates getting a final figure on the project in the coming months.
