Police: Shooter reported near motel in Lorain

LORAIN — Police are investigating shots fired at Shoreway Motel on Monday.

At 8:45 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to 3945 W. Erie Ave. for a man with a gun shooting at another man in front of the motel.

Before officers arrived, the shooter reportedly ran north across West Erie Avenue and was last seen in the parking lot of 3910 W. Erie Ave.

Police met with the victim, James Pennington, 40, who said an unknown man confronted him in the parking lot of Jack and Diane’s Lounge while he was walking home, but he would not say what started the argument.

Pennington said the man he argued with earlier was waiting for him across the street of the motel and fired one shot at him.

A neighbor told police he witnessed the incident. He said he heard yelling and saw a black man, approximately 5-feet, 8
-inches tall and 200 pounds, wearing all black, fire a shot at Pennington and then run across the street. He said the man, who was carrying a small handgun, then attempted to open several car doors in the parking lot of 3910 W. Erie Ave.

Police were unable to locate the shooter or any evidence.
