Serena E. Molnar (nee Pongracz), 98, of Lorain, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. She was born August 8, 1914 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Serena worked as a clerk at the former Lawson’s Dairy Store at the corner of Route 254 and Oakwood Ave. in Sheffield Township. Previously, she had worked as a sales associate in the children’s department at O’Neil’s Department Store in Sheffield Township.
Serena was a member of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ in Lorain. See volunteered at Vincent Elementary School and the school PTA. Serena loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren very much.
She is survived by her children, Bennie Molnar of Elyria, Del (Mary Ann) Molnar of Sheffield Township, Louise (Marvin) McCaslin of LaGrange, Tina DeMarco (nee Molnar) of Lorain and Scott Molnar of Westlake; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother, Louis (Carol) Pongracz of Elyria; and sister, Helen Dennis of Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Molnar in 1978; daughter, Marilyn Dunkle; parents, Anthony and Priscilla Elizabeth Pongracz (nee Kalassay); brothers, William and Julius Pongracz; and sisters, Agnes Thompson, Julie Berki and Wilma Deliman.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Additional viewing times will be held Wednesday November 21, 2012 from 10 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 11 A.M. at Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ, 1691 E. 31st St., Lorain. The Rev. Peter Toth, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
