Troopers seize $75K in counterfeit perfume during traffic stop

ELYRIA — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized $75,000 worth of counterfeit perfume and cologne during a traffic stop in Lorain County Monday.

Troopers stopped a 2004 Chevrolet 2500 cargo van for a speed violation on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 136, at 11:15 a.m. Monday. A search of the car, after a drug-sniffing dog alerted the vehicle, found 1,497 bottles of counterfeit perfume and cologne, worth an estimated $75,000.

The occupants, Ali Sobh, 23; Abraham Ajami, 23; and Mohamed El-Modailal, 40, all of Dearborn, Michigan, are now facing felony charges. They were charged with trademark counterfeiting and criminal simulation.

If convicted, each could face up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
