Man arrested for break-ins at American Legion, other local businesses

Krugman

ELYRIA — Police have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for several break-ins at the American Legion on Ohio Street and several others in the area.

Benjamin Krugman, 26, is charged with five counts of breaking and entering and one count of tampering with evidence. Police said Krugman’s arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation by Detective Jay Loesch of the Elyria Police Department.

The American Legion was burglarized three times in November, most recently on Nov. 18, when the suspect made a hole in the drywall to enter the business. Nothing was reported stolen, but during the other two burglaries, a few thousand dollars were stolen.

Police say Krugman is also responsible for break-ins at Twist and Shake, at 230 Cleveland Street, and Ten 2 Ten, at 212 Cleveland Street.

Krugman is being held at Lorain County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Police said additional charges are possible.

Krugman has been charged with breaking and entering in the past, according to Elyria Municipal Court records.
