Lea Norman, 26, was charged with felonious assault and taken to EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria for evaluation after officers found blood in her home and her boyfriend with a deep cut on his thumb.
Police were sent to Norman’s home in the 100 block of Wurst Court at 2:30 a.m. to assist LifeCare after they received a call that Norman’s live-in boyfriend, Richard Blanton, was injured. LifeCare left the scene looking for Blanton after Blanton walked to EMH for treatment.
Police said Norman was covered with blood and was intoxicated when officers arrived. Police said Norman had begun cleaning up the blood on the floor of the living room and a large kitchen knife was on the floor with blood on it as well.
Norman told officers that she and Blanton were at Pudge’s Bar, and Blanton had left earlier in the evening. Blanton said a male friend of hers took her home, and Blanton was jealous when they both showed up at the residence.
Norman said Blanton grabbed a kitchen knife after an argument, threatening to kill himself, and then pointed it at her when she grabbed it, accidentally stabbing him.
Police said Norman’s story was not consistent with Blanton’s story or his wounds.
When officers found Blanton, he had a deep wound to his thumb, almost severing it, according to a police report.
Blanton told officers that Norman had threatened to kill herself with the knife when he tried to end their relationship. He said Norman then screamed, swinging the knife at him, and when he put his hand up to try to catch the knife, he was cut on the thumb.
Blanton did not want to press charges, according to a police report, but Norman was arrested by officers due to the severity of his injuries.
