Clifford Wayne “Cooker” McCarthy, 62, of Elyria Township, passed away peacefully Monday, November 26, 2012 at home while surrounded by family members and under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve. He was born March 19, 1950 to the union of Clifford Eugene and Mary Helen McCarthy (Tarpley) in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
He was a 1968 graduate of Brownsville Area High School in Pennsylvania and was a member of the school marching band and excelled at basketball for the church league. Cliff moved to Lorain after graduation. He was employed at Lorain Products, American Standard, and Avon Lake Ford Motor Company, where he retired in 2007.
He was a member of New Zion Baptist church in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, where he was Baptized at an early age. He also attended Second Baptist Church in Elyria.
Cliff “Cooker” was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan! Hobbies included restoring cars and trucks, collecting historical vehicles, and riding his Harley Davidson as an active member of the Sophisticated Gents Motorcycle Club of Lorain. He was also a former member of the Night Train Express Van Club were his van was called The Pink Panther.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Wayne Jones of New York, New York; daughter, Takysha Lynell McCarthy of Lorain; five grandchildren, Thomas, Alairia and Amir Wimbush, Morgan Hicks and Samuel Alexander; mother, Mary H. McCarthy-Brooks of Lorain; step father, Albert H. Brooks of Brownsville, Pennsylvania; brother, Edward E. McCarthy of Bedford; sisters, Barbara (James) Hooks of Elyria and Rhonda R. (Anthony) Pettie of Lorain; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Eugene McCarthy; brother, Mark Anthony “Tony” McCarthy; grandparents, Dea and Helen Tarpley, Edward McCarthy and Bessie McCarthy Carter.
Friends may call Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 9 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. at Friendship Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Ave., Lorain, the Reverend Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
