At 2:30 p.m., signs hung on the doors said the store was permanently closed.
Employees continued to serve patrons at around noon, but were visibly upset at the news of the restaurant’s closure, which occurred with no notice to the public.
The store’s owner, Roger Lindh, issued a statement to The Chronicle-Telegram on Friday.
“We made the difficult decision to close based on the decline of business in the area. We love the community and encourage our loyal customers to visit the neighboring Sheffield Arby’s Restaurant, located at 5235 Detroit Road,” read the statement.
According to Lindh, the Elyria Arby’s building will be put up for sale.
The statement did not say whether any employees of the store would be transferred, and the store’s manager declined to comment.
