Westlake man arrested after fire

WESTLAKE — A Westlake man was arrested Thursday after he reportedly set his own garage on fire.

Daniel Jung, 30, is charged with aggravated arson after police said he set the garage on fire at his home at 25714 Woodpath Trail.

According to police, Jung poured an accelerant around a cluster of propane tanks and aerosol cans and lit it at

10:27 a.m. A witness observed him acting suspiciously and called 911. The garage was moderately damaged. No one else was home, and no one was injured, according to police.

Jung was taken to St. John Medical Center after making suicide threats. He was released and returned to the Westlake City Jail.

In 2004, Jung was driving a car that struck and killed his father, Yong Jung, and injured his mother, Jemma Jung, according to police.

He spent time in mental institutions before he was eventually convicted of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. He was sentenced to eight years but was not locked up for very long because of  time he’d already served, according to police.
