ELYRIA — A Cleveland man was arrested early Saturday morning in the parking lot of EMH Elyria Medical Center after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend during an earlier get-together with friends.
Samath Min, 30, was charged with assault and criminal damage, according to police.
The arrest occurred at 2:10 a.m., more than two hours after police first went to an apartment in the 1000 block of Hunter’s Crossing where they found a damaged door frame and Min’s 21-year-old girlfriend, a Lakewood woman, struggling to breathe after the assault.
The woman was taken to EMH for treatment.
The couple who lease the apartment told police they invited Min and the woman over for drinks. While the four played a game, an argument broke out between Samath and the woman.
After an hour, Min was asked to leave, police said.
As Min and his girlfriend left, they got into a fight in the apartment parking lot during which the woman was reportedly punched twice in the chest, choked and hit in the mouth.
Police said Min also threw the woman’s purse and a bag on top of a nearby garage but later retrieved them.
Min’s girlfriend came back inside the friends’ apartment, after which Min damaged the door frame trying to get to his girlfriend again.
The man in the apartment got Min to leave, and Min drove off.
Min was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. when police found him in a car in the EMH parking lot. The woman was in his car and told police she needed a ride home to Lakewood and had no one to take her.
