ELYRIA — A 17-year-old Elyria boy was arrested on drug charges last night after police responded to a report of shots fired.
The teen is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco products.
Officers were called to 1604 Middle Ave. about 7:30 p.m. A witness told them that a group of four black males had fired five or six shots into the air near the water tower behind the address. She told them the boys then ran to a home on 17th Street, according to a police report.
Police went to the 17th Street home and spoke with the resident, asking her where her son was, and she responded that she didn’t know, the report said.
Officers were speaking with the witness, when she noticed one of the suspects walking through her backyard. Officers approached him and noticed him drop some money, a pack of cigars and a 1.2 gram bag of suspected marijuana. They also located in his pocket a grinder containing marijuana shavings.
He told officers he did not know anything about the shots fired and was just returning from the store.
Officers contacted the teen’s mother to pick him up and certified him to juvenile court on the drug and tobacco charges.
