LORAIN — Two men are recovering from what police said were non-life threatening wounds after being shot around 4:50 a.m. Friday in a house at 1708 E. 31st St.
Lorain resident Antonio Stewart, 24, and Luis Alvarez-Lugo, no age or address available, were shot during a fight at the home, according to Officer Aaron Ehrke’s report.
Stewart was shot in the left armpit, with the bullet exiting through his chest. Alvarez-Lugo was shot in the left hand.
The fight began over an argument between Stewart’s girlfriend and an 18-year-old city man who told her not to mess with him because he was carrying a pistol and it might accidentally fire, witnesses told Ehrke. The girlfriend, who witnesses said was drunk, took it as a threat, leading to a fight between Stewart and the 18-year-old, police said. Stewart came to the home with a toy gun that resembled a real one, which he hid under a couch cushion before the fight, witnesses said.
Stewart said he was shot by a 21-year-old city man whom police said they know. Alvarez-Lugo said he was shot while trying to break up the fight and didn’t know who shot him.
A .45-caliber shell casing and a .45-caliber bullet were collected at the scene. The shooter remained free Sunday night.
