Homeless man arrested, accused of masturbating near dressing room

LORAIN — A homeless man was arrested after two women reported that he was masturbating near the dressing room at a Lorain thrift store.

Police spoke with the women at the thrift store, located at 125 W. 21st Street, at 11:33 a.m. Monday. The women, who were sisters, told an officer they were shopping with their mother, who was trying on clothes in the dressing room, when a man approached them and asked if they were related. The women said the man, later identified as George Garrett Jr., 49, then dropped his pants past his knees, grabbed his genitals and started to masturbate.

Garrett left after the women told him they were calling police, according to a police report, and he continued shopping.

According to the report, the three were by the thrift store’s dressing room, where Garrett was laying on the floor before he approached the women.

Police arrived as Garrett was leaving the store, and he was stopped crossing West 21st Street.

Garrett told police he was just “scratching his leg” and had to pull his pants all the way down so he could scratch his skin.

Garrett was arrested and charged with public indecency. He was arraigned Monday in Lorain Municipal Court.

According to court records, Garrett has numerous former convictions, including another public indecency conviction in July of 2011.
