Larry W. Phillips, 65, of South Amherst, formerly of Lorain, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland after a sudden illness. He was born February 16, 1947 in Spraggs, Pennsylvania, and was a 1966 graduate of Elyria High School.
Larry worked for U.S. Steel at the Lorain Pipe Mill, retiring in February of 2012. He was also a Deputy with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department in 1979, serving 10 years on road patrol. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Philippines during the Vietnam War, member of Elyria Eagles #431 and Lorain AMVETS Post 47.
Larry is survived by his sons, Todd J.A. Phillips of Tucson, Arizona and Tad W. (Shelby) Phillips of Vermilion; grandsons, Jonathan, David and Cooper Phillips; granddaughter, Laura Vasi; sisters, Linda (Max) Jones of LaGrange, Ruth (Larry) Mecera of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania and Sandra (William) Marshall of Valrico, Florida.
He was preceded in death by parents, Stanley W. and Verna E. (nee Moore) Phillips Dragan; and step father, John Dragan in 1999.
The family will have a celebration of life gathering in honor of Larry on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 2 to 4 P.M. at The Nest Restaurant located at 3701 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, OH 44089.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Neurology Patient Care, Education and Research Fund, The MetroHealth Foundation Towers 135 A, 2500 MetroHealth Drive, Cleveland, OH 44109.
