Mother cited for teens’ hotel party
ELYRIA — The mother of a 13-year-old was issued a citation after her daughter and eight other juveniles were found partying at a hotel room rented in her name.
At 1 a.m. Saturday, officers were sent to Econo Lodge, 523 Griswold Road, for a loud party with possible underage drinking. Police arrived to find two teenage boys standing in front of a hotel room and an empty beer bottle and vomit on the sidewalk. Police said nine teenagers, ages 13 to 17, were inside the rented room. The room was damaged, according to a police report, and covered in cake and icing, and a shower curtain rod had been pulled off the wall.
A front desk attendant told police 42-year-old Starnella Harder, of Elyria, had rented the room. Harder was contacted, and she told police she rented the room at 5:30 p.m. and had dropper her 13-year-old daughter off approximately 30 minutes prior to the officers’ arrival, but she said she did not go inside. Police said Harder had no answer when asked why she dropped her daughter off at a hotel at 1 a.m.
Harder was issued a misdemeanor citation for curfew violation of her child and nine counts of contributing to the unruliness of a juvenile. She was ordered to appear at Elyria Municipal Court at 10 a.m. Monday.
