Larry “Dave” Smith

Larry “Dave” Smith, 64, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012, at EMH Healthcare in Elyria, following a long illness and battle with diabetes. He was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania on February 26, 1948.

He had been a resident of Lorain County for 40 years. Mr. Smith retired in 2011 from EMH Healthcare in Elyria, where he was employed as a Porter. Prior to that, he was employed as a gas attendant at Sam’s Club in Sheffield Village. He was also formerly employed for many years as a machine operator at Demby Rod and Fastener in Berea. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria, a member and past president of the Golden Moose in Elyria, a member and former chaplain of the Men’s Auxiliary at VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, a member of the Elyria Eagles Club and a member of the Elyria AMVETS. Mr. Smith was a fan of NASCAR racing and an avid follower of NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (nee Dorr); one son, Brian Smith (Terri) of Brook Park; two grandchildren, Kenny and Marie; one stepdaughter, Sherrie Eshelman (Jim) of Wellington; two stepsons, Jeffrey Yun of Washington and Richard Yun of Florida; three sisters, Leoris Ogline of Somerset, Pennsylvania, Dorothy Kelley (Don) of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Betty Beaver (Ralph) of Streetsboro; and three brothers, Ernest Smith of Berlin, Pennsylvania, Leroy Smith (Georgia) of Ravenna and Herlin Smith of Collbran, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda (nee Campbell) in 1985; by his parents, Herlin and Bessie Smith; and by two infant sisters, Joan and Carol Smith.

The family will receive friends Thursday December 13, 2012, from 4 until 9 P.M., at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. The Funeral Service will be Friday, December 14, 2012, 10 A.M., at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 E. River Rd., Elyria. Reverend Robert Weldon, Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Columbia Township Cemetery (West River Rd.) in Columbia Station.
