ELYRIA — Police arrested a Lorain woman after several witnesses said she struck the father of her child in the face and then drove through several yards with her 4-year-old son in the car.
At 3:55 p.m. Sunday, police met with the alleged victim of a domestic incident, Daniel Smith, 21, who told police his 4-year-old daughter’s mother, Desiree Reedy, 25, had slapped him in the face and then drove into several yards on Chelsee Place without properly restraining the child in a seat belt.
Smith’s girlfriend and a family friend told police Reedy and Smith had been fighting when Reedy slapped Smith. They said Smith stood in front of the vehicle to stop Reedy from driving away with the child, who didn’t have a seat belt on.
According to a police report, Reedy then drove through the yard of 105 Chelsee Place and into an adjacent lot, striking an Alltel phone box. She then drove into the yard of 135 Chelsee Place into some landscaping, striking a large stone and nearly striking a tree.
Reedy arrived at the station later and told police she did strike Smith, according to the report. She said she then panicked, and in an attempt to get away from Smith, drove into the yards.
Reedy was arrested and charged with domestic violence. She was arraigned Monday in Elyria Municipal Court, where she entered a guilty plea.
Reedy was sentenced to 85 days in jail, suspended on the condition of completing an anger management program. She was ordered to stay away from Smith and his property for one year.
