Ray Burns, 89, formerly of Elyria, died of kidney and diabetes complications Saturday, December 8, 2012 in Winter Park, Florida. He was born April 28, 1923, to Fell and Asenath Burns of Franklin, Pennsylvania.
Ray is survived by his wife, Ailene (Goodwill); sons, Duane (Elyria) and Dr. Ronald Burns (wife Janet); five grandchildren, in Winter Park, Florida; Ray is also survived by his brother, Willard (wife Lois); and numerous nieces and nephews in Franklin and surrounding Pennsylvania.
After graduation from the American Watch Institute in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Ray was a founding partner of the Vath, Burns & Mahwenney Jewelry store in Franklin, Pennsylvania. Ray moved his career to Brandau Jewelers in 1963, and served as watch and clock repairman for numerous Lorain County stores, as well as direct business with his clientele. Ray’s interests included gardening and avid sports fan, but whatever it took to get involved with his family. He went to Indian Guides with Ron, coached Little League with Duane, took up golf to play with Duane, and enjoyed watching the grandchildren play soccer and basketball. Ray and Ailene are avid fans of the Cleveland Indians, loved visiting Spring Training when in Winter Haven, Florida, and now after retirement/relocation – the Orlando Magic. Ray was a member of Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, the Elks Club, the AWI and various jeweler associations, and Elyria Catholic boosters.
Funeral arrangements were handled in Orlando.
