Outfielder Nick Swisher meeting with Tribe

CLEVELAND — Free-agent outfielder Nick Swisher is expected to meet with the Indians today at Progressive Field.

Cleveland is interested in signing the Ohio State product — a career .256 hitter who has hit at least 20 home runs in each of his eight full seasons in the majors.

Swisher, 32, has been pursued by a number of teams this offseason, including the New York Yankees, who he has played for since 2009. The Red Sox, Giants, Phillies and Orioles have also shown interest, with Swisher expected to meet with a number of clubs vying for his services.

With Shin-Soo Choo traded last week to Cincinnati, Swisher would fill the vacancy in right field. He batted .277 with 24 homers and 93 RBIs in 148 games for the Yankees in 2012.
