Helen A. Halter (nee Vitovitz), 79, and a resident of Henrietta Township, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at her home. She was born June 11, 1933 in Columbia Station. Helen had made her home in Henrietta Township for the last 47 years.
Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Helen was a member of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in South Amherst. She was active with the Bereavement ministry and was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society. In her younger years she taught Catechism. Helen loved animals and gardening. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son and his wife, John Joseph, Jr. and Margaret Halter of Mansfield; daughters and their husbands, Karen Marie and Erhardt Kurzhals of Perry, Ohio, Mary Lou and George Delaney of Vermilion; grandchildren, John Halter, Jessica Halter, Josef Kurzhals, Ivah Kurzhals, Branden Penzes and George Delaney II; her brothers, Frank Vitovitz (Norma) of Georgia, Eli Vitovitz (Diane) of Elyria and John Vitovitz of Columbia Station.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John J. Halter on August 12, 1994; son, Jeffrey Halter in 1978; daughter, Mary Kay Halter in 1963; brother, Edward Vitovitz and by her parents, John and Mary Vitovitz (nee Spooner).
Friends may call Friday, December 21, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11 A.M. at Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst (please meet at the church). Burial will follow be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donors choice.
