John Edward Dalton, Sr., 83, of Lorain, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain. He was born December 30, 1928 in Raleigh, West Virginia and moved to Lorain in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. He retired from U.S. Steel where he worked as a welder for more than 38 years and was a member of the USWA Local 1104. He was also a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Lorain where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board as Chairman. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading the Bible.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years, Annette E. Dalton; 11 children, Linda Manns of West Virginia, Diane Cook (Raymond) of South Carolina, Janet Dalton of Lorain, Mona Dalton of Michigan, Darlene, Gina, Brenda, Tammy and Tina Dalton, all of Lorain, and John Dalton, Jr. (Doris) of Lorain, and Frederick Dalton of California; sister, Geraldine Turner of DC; brothers, Lawrence Dalton of DC and James Dalton (Rhonda) of Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John A Dalton and Mahalia Dalton (nee Gravley); sisters, Clarice Daniels, Nellie Shanklin, Katherine and Abria Dalton; and brothers, David and Claude, and Rossi Dalton.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 from 6 to 9 P.M. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1516 W 30th St., Lorain, where funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11 A.M., with Rev. Donald K. Young, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
