John E. Scheutzow, 79, of Elyria, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012, at EMH Healthcare, following a sudden illness. He was born May 12, 1933 in Chardon and was an Elyria resident for most of his life.
John worked at Sears Auto Service in Elyria as a mechanic for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching wrestling and football on television.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen “Betty” (nee Vince); son, John D. (Becky) Scheutzow of Elyria; granddaughters, Jeanette Linden and Sarah Scheutzow; great-grandson, Samuel Linden; sisters, Ann Jares and Henrietta Hajes, both of Elyria and Mary Ann Thornton of El Dorado, Arizona; and brother, Ted Scheutzow of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary Scheutzow; and a brother, Richard Scheutzow.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 11:30 A.M., until the time of services at 1:30 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Reverend Harold Reddick will officiate. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
