No. 10: Donna Brown kills her two cousins

Lorain Police Lt. Mark Carpentiere makes a phone call as he works on the investigation of a double murder at 1522 West 23rd St. in Lorain.

Dale Linder, Sr. said he was shocked when his sons, Dale Linder Jr. and Justin Linder, were shot and killed in the family’s home July 5. But more shocking, he said, was who was accused of pulling the trigger — the Linders’ cousin, Donna Brown.

Brown

Prosecutors have asked for Brown, who is now facing aggravated murder, felonious assault, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence charges to receive the death penalty if convicted. Brown’s attorney, Mike Duff, said, however, that the act was done in self-defense after Dale Linder Jr. and Justin Linder had continually terrorized Brown because of her sexual orientation and relationship with another woman.

Duff alleges that Justin Linder “pistol-whipped” Brown at a Fourth of July party that took place hours before the shooting.

Lorain police Detective Steyven Curry testified during the preliminary hearing that Brown had a black eye when she surrendered to police hours after the shooting. He also said he didn’t consider the case a hate crime.
