Mary E. Porter (nee Beachler), age 87, and a resident of Birmingham, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Kingston of Vermilion. She was born in Lorain, March 9, 1925, to the late Henry and Ruth (nee Vanalman) Beachler.
Mary was a dishwasher at the former Hielman’s Restaurant, Lorain, from the late 1940s to the 1960s. She was very active in the Salvation Army for many years. Mary moved to Birmingham and was active in the Birmingham United Methodist Church for 20 years. She loved to play bingo, crochet, and create crafts, which she enjoyed giving to others. She never forgot her family and friends birthdays or anniversarys.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosie (Chuck) Nagy and Cinda (Harry) Podlich; granddaughters, Dawn (Donnie) Hollingsworth and Nikkie (Brian) Strohsack; great grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Gonzales and Jenna and Olivia Strohsack; a brother, Daniel Beachler; her sister, Mildred Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Porter (1993).
There will be an 11A.M. Memorial Service Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Birmingham United Methodist Church, 15018 South Street, Birmingham. Reverend Dick Kretchmar will officiate. Following the service, a luncheon will be served in the church hall. Private family burial at a later date.
