LORAIN — A Lorain man was arrested after it was reported that he was waving a gun near West 18th Street and Hamilton Avenue.
At 11:49 p.m. Monday, police were sent to the area and found three people walking in the area. Police said Heriberto Rodriguez, 30, continued walking away from officers as he was ordered to stop. Rodriguez then dropped an item out of his pocket, according to a police report.
Police searched Rodriguez for weapons and found an empty pistol magazine in his pocket, according to the report. Police said a 9 mm firearm was found in the area where Rodriguez had dropped the object.
Rodriguez told police the gun belonged to him, and he brought it to a New Year’s party because he knew several others would bring guns. He told police he had not fired the weapon, and he did not have any bullets.
After Rodriguez was transferred to Lorain City Jail, police said, two 9 mm rounds were found in his pockets.
Rodriguez said he didn’t know the bullets were in his pockets.
Rodriguez was charged with inducing panic and carrying a concealed firearm. The weapon was placed into evidence.
