Suspect arrested in Sunday’s shooting at Biggy’s Pub

LORAIN — A Lorain man was arrested Wednesday in a Sunday shooting at Biggy’s Pub and Eatery — the second arrest in a recent shooting for the Lorain Police Department.

During a 24-hour manhunt for the suspect responsible for a shooting Tuesday at Liberty Gas on Broadway that left one person dead, police arrested Marlon Capers, 20, and charged him with felonious assault for allegedly shooting Jon Jackson Jr.

At 12:03 a.m. Sunday, officers were sent to Biggy’s for a large fight outside in which Jackson was shot several times.

Jackson was found stumbling on the street near the parking lot, where he later fell to the ground, according to a police report.

Police said Jackson was uncooperative with officers and refused to say who shot him. Doctors at Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he was transferred, found several bullet wounds.

Jackson is recovering at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Police spokesman Lt. Roger Watkins said information obtained during an investigation led to Capers’ arrest. He said the shootings at Biggy’s and at Liberty Gas on Tuesday were not related.

Capers was arrested and charged with felonious assault Tuesday outside of a residence on Utica Avenue, where police said he was hiding. He was transferred to Lorain City Jail, pending his arraignment, according to a news release.

According to court documents, both the shooter and the victim have criminal records.

Jackson is awaiting sentencing on charges of possession of cocaine, having weapons while under disability, using weapons while intoxicated, inducing panic, obstructing official business and discharging a firearm in the city.

Capers was convicted of possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and three counts of trafficking in drugs in December 2011.

Watkins did not say what the motive of the shooting was or how Capers and Jackson knew each other.
