James A. Bartko, 78, of Sheffield Village, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at St. John’s Medical Center, Westlake. He was born October 22, 1934 in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Marie (nee Flick) Bartko. James was also preceded in death by his wife, Agnes in 2012; brothers, William and Thomas; and sisters, Martha and Roxella Bartko, and Barbara Gardner.
James retired in 1978 as a First Sergeant, from the United States Army after 21 years of service. He served during the Vietnam War, in Germany, and at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Avon.
He is survived by a son, Jurgon of Soberheim, Germany; grandson, Patrick of Rudesheim, Germany; brother, Charles Joseph of Westlake; sisters, Mary LaVerne Steiner of Scottdale, Pennsylvania, Joan Timko of Perropolis, Pennsylvania, Bernadine Arendash of Sheffield Village and Beatrice Buchta of Monongahela, Pennsylvania.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 P.M., Friday, January 4, 2013, in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Services will begin Saturday, January 5, 2013, with prayers in the funeral home at 9:15 A.M., and proceed to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon, for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M., with Father C. Thomas Cleaton presiding. Entombment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Avon.
