LORAIN — A fire at a vacant home early yesterday may have been arson, according to the Fire Department.
Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Livchak said firefighters were called to 1102 W. Ninth St. at 3:24 a.m. and arrived to find fire visible on the home’s first floor.
Once the fire was put out, Livchak said firefighters determined that 90% of the first floor was damaged, and the second floor had smoke damage.
The department’s Fire Prevention Bureau was called in to investigate after firefighters found a side window broken out, gas cans and footprints leading away from the window, Livchak said. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
Firefighters estimated damage to the home at $20,000. He said the home’s estimated value is $45,000.
