ELYRIA — Police are looking for a suspect who got away after an armed robbery at a Washington Avenue home.
At 7:56 p.m. Monday officers were called to the home, in the 300 block of Washington Ave., for a home invasion in which the suspects had fled in a red or purple PT Cruiser. Police Lt. Chris Costantino said the suspects had weapons and held the home’s occupants against their will while they took a wallet and cell phone.
Officers from the Sheffield Police Department located a vehicle matching a description of the suspect vehicle at state Route 254 and West River Road North. The suspects led police officers on a brief chase, Costantino said, and two men fled from the car in different directions.
Costantino said a man in the back seat threw an item out of the car, and Elyria police officers found a handgun near the area, approximately 15 feet from the roadway in a wooded area east of 2810 North Ridge Road.
Costantino said a female driver and one of the male passengers were apprehended. Police are not releasing their names while they search for the second passenger, who is still at large.
According to a police report, an Ohio Direct Card, belonging to a resident of the burglarized home, was found in the suspects’ vehicle.
