Saturday, Jan. 5

2:56 p.m. — 4900 block Midway Mall, Jerry Hoagland, 27, Elyria, charged with theft for the shoplifting of a $70 bottle of cologne from Sears Department Store.

5:30 p.m. — 600 block Wood St., 22-year-old man left his house about 3 p.m. and came back two hours later to discover it had been entered through a rear garage door that was forced. Police said missing items included a 50-inch television, a smaller TV and a video game console.

Sunday, Jan. 6

12:20 a.m. — 1500 block W. 19th St., complaint of domestic violence and theft.

Saturday, Jan. 5

2:26 a.m. — Elyria Avenue and West 18th Street, John L. Alston Jr., 59, Lorain, charged with operating a vehicle intoxicated.

9:06 a.m. — West 37th Street at Oberlin Avenue, Kevin R. Shupe, 25, Amherst, charged with driving while intoxicated.

12:53 p.m. — East 31st Street and Globe Avenue, 39-year-old woman told police she was assaulted by the sister of a woman the 39-year-old had fought in a bar the night before. Both women told police they were doused with pepper spray by the other.

10:33 p.m. — 300 block W. 31st St., a woman told police the front yard banner advertising her tax preparation business had been stolen shortly before a neighbor returned it. A teen is suspected of having removed the sign as a prank.

Vermilion police

Tuesday, Dec. 25

11:35 a.m. — 1200 block of Hollyview Drive, theft of an Xbox 360 during a home burglary. A resident at the home said the burglar entered through an unlocked side door.

7:38 p.m. — 4800 block of Liberty Ave., driver cited for open container in a motor vehicle, no name given. Police said the driver was pulled over for driving recklessly and was found to have a freshly open beer.

Thursday, Dec. 27

2:03 p.m. — 6800 block of Cliffside Drive, theft of a wallet during a family gathering on Christmas Eve. Police said there is a suspect, who was arrested on an unrelated warrant during the investigation.

Friday, Dec. 28

2:01 p.m. — Brownhelm Street and Claus Road, a driver arrested and charged with speed, driving under suspension, fictitious plates, possession of marijuana, possession of hash and possession of drug paraphernalia, no name given. A passenger charged with possession of marijuana, no name given.

8:32 p.m. — 300 block of Devonshire Road, officers were sent to a fight in progress and found drug paraphernalia and heroin left in a yard. No victims or suspects were located.

Sunday, Dec. 30

8:10 p.m. — 1000 block of Sanford St., police were sent to the area to investigate an assault in which a man was assaulted by a person he did not know. The victim told police the person approached him, knew him by name and threw a punch that missed him. After wrestling with his attacker, the man said the person fled in a black Ford F-250, driven by an unknown male.

8:33 p.m. — 4200 block of Liberty Ave., reported theft of numerous items from a rental car at Lake Erie Lanes. The victim later called police to report that his ex-wife had taken the items to “teach him a lesson” for leaving his car unlocked.

Amherst police

Tuesday, Jan. 1

1:35 a.m. — North Quarry Road, north of Rome Beauty Drive, Derek A. Gilles charged with failure to control, operating a vehicle impaired and blood-alcohol content over 0.08 percent. Police said Gilles was found in a ditch, trying to maneuver his vehicle out, and was intoxicated.

Wednesday, Jan. 2

7:48 p.m. — 2200 block of Kresge Drive, a Giant Eagle employee told police that a woman called to say a purse was stolen from her vehicle, but she chased a man to get the purse back. Police said the woman did not call police to report that her purse had been stolen and are investigating the incident.

10 p.m. — Oakhill Boulevard, Daryl A. Davis arrested and charged with failure to comply, reckless operation, red light, marked lanes and weaving. Police said Davis was driving over marked lanes and when officers tried to pull him over, Davis fled from officers, leading them on a short chase. Police said Davis stopped his vehicle on Oakwood Boulevard, east of Oak Point Road, where he was apprehended.
