Browns hire Rob Chudzinski as coach

Rob Chudzinski is the 14th full-time coach of the Browns.

He was hired tonight and is expected to be announced at a news conference Friday.

Chudzinski was Cleveland’s tight ends coach in 2004 and offensive coordinator in 2007-08. He spent the last two years as coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.

Chudzinski, who was born in Toledo and grew up a Browns fan, beat out at least seven other candidates that interviewed since owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner fired Pat Shurmur on Dec. 31. Former Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt interviewed for the second time today.

But the news broke of the Chudzinski hiring around 10:15 tonight, and a team source confirmed it. The Browns have yet to make the announcement official.
