Man charged with domestic violence

ELYRIA — A Cleveland man was arrested and charged with domestic violence and burglary after his ex-girlfriend accused him of breaking into her apartment and assaulting her.

At 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to the 500 block of Walnut Street after a 911 call. Police met with a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Gedson, was in her apartment against her wishes when she arrived home.

She said Gedson asked her who she was dating, and when she refused to answer, she said Gedson grabbed the scarf around her neck, pulling her toward him. The woman told police Gedson then pushed her into the bedroom and threatened her, stole her cell phone and started looking at phone numbers of the men in her contact list.

The woman took her landline phone and called 911 while Gedson was looking at the cell phone, according to a police report.

The woman told police she and Gedson had lived together until they broke up in March. She said she allowed Gedson to stay over New Year’s Eve to discuss their relationship, but said they decided not to rekindle their romance.

Gedson told police he had been staying at the woman’s house a few times a week, and they had been dating, despite his marriage to another woman. He denied assaulting the woman.

Gedson was arrested and taken to Lorain County Jail, where he was held without bond prior to a hearing Thursday when he entered no plea to the charges in Elyria Municipal Court, and he was ordered to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend. A preliminary hearing was set for 2 p.m. Tuesday.
