Anzelma “Ann” Novak

Anzelma “Ann” Novak, 84, of Avon, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at her home. She was born October 4, 1928 in Lorain, but was a longtime Avon resident.

She graduated from Lorain High School after which she worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain. Later she worked at the Social Security Area Office in San Francisco, California. She retired as the organist from St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon, where she played for many years.

She was very active and involved with many organizations. She was a member of the Avon Sunrise Bowlers at the North Ridgeville Brunswick Lanes, a member of the Avenbury Lakes Pinochle Club, active member of the Golden Age Pensioners Club 1104 Retirees, serving as Vice President from Jan. 1993 – 2004, and President from 2004 – 2012. She was the keyboard player and a singer with the Gibson Girls and Skylarks for 20 years. She loved traveling and toured France, Belgium, Luzemburg, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. She enjoyed water aerobics, developing her own recipes that she would share at the family parties that she loved cooking for, and painting with water colors and acrylics.

She is survived by her six children, Kathryn (Randall) Krul, Gloria Novak, Joseph (Sharon), Joanette (Richard) Romero, Laurie (Bill) Strickland, and Daniel (Kandi); 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jerome Shinsky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Novak; and one brother, Oliver “Ollie”.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 4 until 8 P.M., at the Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, where closing prayers will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 9:15 A.M., followed by a 10 A.M. Mass, at St. Mary Of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Avon. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon.
