Police: Sexual assault victim may have been involved in drug deal

LORAIN — A woman who initially told police that she had been kidnapped off the street by a stranger and raped last week may not have been entirely truthful with police.

Lorain police Lt. Roger Watkins said Thursday that after further investigation police believe the 18-year-old woman knew her alleged attacker, Joseph B. Worthy.

He said the victim appears to have been lured to a vacant home for a drug deal by Worthy and then sexually assaulted. Watkins said police don’t doubt a sexual assault took place, but the circumstances surrounding the attack were different than what the victim originally reported.

He also said it doesn’t appear that Worthy, who is being held in the Lorain County Jail on rape and kidnapping charges, was armed at the time of the attack.
