LORAIN — A man was arrested and a woman was hospitalized for a mental evaluation after an incident at a funeral Thursday afternoon.

At 4:33 p.m., police were sent to Walter A. Frey Funeral Home for a disturbance involving a woman running around the parking lot screaming. Officers on the scene learned that the woman and David Wells, 48, are not liked by family members of the deceased man, who fathered three of the woman’s children, and Wells was asked to leave.

Wells refused to leave the funeral home, according to a police report, and the woman, who had become upset, was running around City Hall screaming “unintelligible sentences and unorganized thoughts.”

Police spoke with Wells, learning that the woman had a temporary protection order against him. Wells was arrested and charged with a violation of the order.

The woman, who refused to sign an affidavit for the violation, was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation after she became more upset.

Police noted in the police report that the woman had painted her face white with thick black circles around her eyes and an inch-wide band of candy apple red around her mouth, which the officer said was “inappropriate make-up for a funeral.”
