Carl Lewis Hembly, 96, of North Ridgeville, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at The North Ridge Health Center. Carl was born in Detroit, Michigan, June 21, 1916, and resided in Avon most of his life.
Carl served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, stationed in England. For the last 20 years of Carl’s working life, he worked at NASA, Cleveland, as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Model Maker and retired 1979. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elyria and the David F. Schneider VFW Post 7035, Avon/Avon Lake. In his spare time and through out his retirement he enjoyed golf, as well as trips to nearby casinos. He was an accomplished water color artist, a hobby he picked up in his 80s.
Carl is survived by daughters, Suzanne Hembly of Marblehead, Cheryl Brodka of Avon and Meg Sajewski (Allen) of Burton. Other survivors include grandsons, Jason Andrews and Sean Forkins (Debbie); and great grandson, Harley; and great granddaughter, Cailyn.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Winifred (nee Mathews), whom he married May 17, 1941; as well as his parents, Herbert and Louise (nee Hummel); sister, Elizabeth; and brother, Jack.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, from 4 until 8 P.M. The funeral service will be at the funeral home, Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 10 A.M. Reverend Harrison D. Gapter, of Redeemer Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.
