Mildred R. “Millie” Brown, 88, of Oberlin, reached her journey’s end, departing this life from Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin, on Sunday, January 20, 2013, where she had been a resident of seven years. She was born April 21, 1924, in Zebulon, Georgia, and moved to Oberlin in the early 1960′s.
She worked Data Entry at F.A.A. in Oberlin, retiring in 1989. She was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin up until the time of her failing health, Sisters of Wisdom, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Womens Club Inc. She enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing bingo and cards.
She is survived by her son, Ted (Patty Young) Wilson, Oberlin; daughter, Sandye Wilson Brown, of Vancouver, Washington; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Ware of Eatonville, Florida, Charlye Mae Hayward of Lansing, Michigan; and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrain A. Brown; daughter, Karen Ann Wilson; father, Charlie Reed, and mother, Mary Jane Reed; three sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2013, 10 A.M., one hour before the time of service at 11 A.M., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oberlin. The Reverend Fred L. Bell will officiate. Burial will be at Westwood Cemetery.
