Nora Jeanette Harwood, 89, of Rochester, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Elms in Wellington. She was born October 10, 1923 in Rochester Twp., daughter of the late Jesse and Edith (Storrow) Knapp. Nora was a lifelong resident of Rochester.
She was a 1941 graduate of Brighton High School. She had worked at the former C.E. Ward Co. in New London and then at the Oberlin Hospital, where she was the head of the Housekeeping Department and retired from the Gilford Instrument Co. in Oberlin.
Nora and her husband, Paul, were members of the Holiday Hobo’s Camping Club. She was also a member of the Rochester Historical Society and a lifelong member of the Rochester United Methodist Church. Nora was very active in the Rochester 4th of July celebrations, and with the Rochester Fire Dept. Flares. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Harwood, whom she married December 7, 1943; her children, Richard (Barb) Harwood of Laurelville, Ohio, Dennis (Patti) Harwood of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Pam (Jim) Mencl of Rochester; her grandchildren, Jennifer Kuck, David, Gregory and Rachel Harwood, Nick and Allison Mencl, Chelle Ruggles; four great grandchildren, Anna, Amelia, Jarrett and Sebastian; and her sister, Rhea Cowie.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade and Carl Knapp; and her sister, Ruth Mourton.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London and from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the funeral home. Pastor Tina Siroki will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Rochester Cemetery, Griggs Rd.
