Ramona “Monin” Gonzalez (nee Soto), 81, of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born April 15, 1931 in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1951, and lived there until moving to Amherst in 1997.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Ramona enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and reading.
Surviving her are four sons, Andres “Andy” Jr., of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard J. (Debbie), of Amherst, Hector (Marilyn), of Auburn, Georgia, and Edwin (Wendy) Gonzalez, of Orlando, Florida; her daughters, Gladys (Carlos) Gabriel, of Margate, Florida, and Lydia Gonzalez, of Dawsonville, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Carmen Soto of Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres Sr., in 1989; her sons, William, in 1999, and Rafael A., in 2004; her sisters, Conchita Soto, Maria Soto and Rafaela Soto; and her brothers, Rafael and Angel Soto.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 25, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing prayers will be said at 9 A.M., Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M., at Nativity BVM Church, 418 W 15th St Lorain. Revrend Robert Glepko, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
