James Edmond “Bumps” McIlwaine, 78, of Huntington Township, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at St. Joseph, New Life Hospice Center in Lorain. He was born December 8, 1934, in Lorain, to the late James M. and Elizabeth (nee Broadfoot) McIlwaine.
James was a graduate of Clearview High School and lived most of his life in Lorain, moving to Huntington Township in 1999. Following high school, James enlisted in the U.S. Air force and served during the Korean War. James worked as a chemical operator for BF Goodrich and retired after 37 years. He was a member of the Huntington Church. In 1976 James purchased his property in Huntington and it was his own piece of heaven on earth and he loved to put his time into it. He and his wife, Patti Ann, moved onto the property in 1999, after years building a home there.
James is survived by his sons, Mark (Karen) McIlwaine of Lorain, and Brian (Tammy) McIlwaine of Huntington Twp.; grandchildren, Cody McIlwaine of Lima, and Chase McIlwaine of Huntington Twp., Ryan Hale of Akron and Faith and Hope McIlwaine of Lorain. Survivors also include siblings, Robert McIlwaine of Elyria, Ella Engle of Amherst, and Ruthie Gross of Elyria.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patti Ann on March 23, of 2006; and a sister, May Beth Perrell.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, January 27, 2013, from 3 until 7 P.M., at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Rt. 58, where services will be held Monday, January 28, 2013, beginning at 11 A.M., with Reverend Stephen Carmany officiating. Burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery.
